TWIN TOWERS

TWIN TOWERS
The original World Trade Center was a complex with
seven buildings in Manhattan, New York City. The
whole complex opened on April 4, 1973, and was destroyed
in 2001. The central part of the complex was represented
by two towers: north and south tower. They called them
"the twins" because they were exactly the same. Till 2001
the twins were the highest skysraper in the world. They
had 110 floors.

TERRORIST ATTACK
On Tuesday morning, 11-th of September 2001, 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda kidnaped four passenger jets. The kidnappers crashed two planes into the Twin Towers. Both towers collapsed within two hours. Both towers was burnt down. The

whole world was astonish.

FIRST AND SECOND PLANE
At 8:45 a.m. the first plane crashed into the north tower
of the World Trade Centre. 20 minutes later, the second
plane hit the south tower. Flames and smoke came out
of the towers and the people who were working there
tried to escape.

THIRD AND FOURTH PLANE
At about 9:40 a.m. a third plane with 58 people on board
crashed into the Pentagon. About 200 people were killed.
A fourth plane probably intended to crash into the White
House, but the pilots lost control of the plane and it
crashed into a field.

VICTIMS
These were the largest terrorist attack in the history.
It was more than three thousand victims. 265 people died
on planes, 2595 people in Tower, 343 firemen, 60 policemen
and 125 soldiers. In Manhattan was destroyed 25
buildings.

DAMAGE
A lot of damage and injured people,
destroyed cars, grass, plants, houses,
trees; fire; air pollution, destruction of
roads, many objects in the tower were
destroyed ; the dust clouds, many
victims.

FIRE
Interior of the towers was burning about two hours after the collision. Fires would not be so extended if it was built as a heavy and tall building and might not be destroyed. Only 14
people could escape from the tower....
