A server in a network is a powerful computer and comprises of a server operating system for example windows 2008 server. They run specialized software to help maintain and control the server. Servers most of the time are dedicated to one role in a network but sometimes have more than one role. Some examples of jobs that servers do in a network are to run as a mail server which handles email functions, They also run as a printer server which manages all printers in a network, Also run as a file server which stores and dispenses files as and when a user requests them. These were just 3 examples of what servers do in a network there are loads of other jobs that server can do.
