1. Data Communication Basics
Data communication is the exchange of data in binary format between two devices via some form of transmission medium. (E.g. Wire, Radio waves)

1.1 Communication system model

1.2 Quality or the Effectiveness of a Data Communication System There are three major concerns,
 Delivery:  Accuracy:  Timeliness:

1.3 Line configuration and Link
A link is the physical communication pathway that transfers data from one device to another. Line configuration is the way communication devices attached to a link. There are two possible ways.

Point to Point: - In this a link is totally reserved for communication between two devices.

Multipoint: - In this more than two specific devices share a single link.

Simplex - Communication happens in only one direction. E.g. :- TV, Radio
Half Duplex - Communication can happen in both directions, but not at the same time. E.g. :- Walky Talky systems
